Turkey notifies World Trade Organization that it is proposing increased tariffs on certain US products

On 21 May 2018, at the request of Turkey, the World Trade Organization circulated Turkey's notification of proposed concessions on certain products originating in the United States (US). This notification was made "under the Article 12.5 of The Agreement on Safeguards to the Council for trade in goods of proposed suspension of concessions and other obligations referred to in Paragraph 2 of Article 8 of The Agreement on Safeguards."

Accordingly, as a response to the measures taken by the US for steel and aluminum imports on 23 March 2018, the Government of Turkey has provided the immediate notification to the Council for Trade in Goods of proposed suspension of concessions and other obligations referred to in Paragraph 2 of Article 8, resulting in an increase in tariffs on certain product categories originating in the US.

The additional duties, listed in the table below, are proposed to be effective from 21 June 2018.
