02 October 2018 Australian Treasury releases discussion paper on taxation of digital economy On 2 October 2018, the Australian Treasury released a discussion paper on a fairer and more sustainable tax system for the digital economy in Australia, as announced in the 2018 Federal Budget. The discussion paper does not provide any recommendations on taxation of digital activities. The paper includes detailed discussion on long-term solutions and interim solutions including the European Union1 and global consideration of a turnover tax on digital activities. Treasury is seeking feedback by 30 November 2018 in relation to 13 discussion questions on areas including:
