Thursday, 25 March 2021 | Why understanding Free Trade Agreements is key to trade strategy (1 pm GMT)

EY has the pleasure of hosting a webcast with Ranil Jayawardena MP, Minister for International Trade at the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT).

The international trading environment is changing for businesses in the UK and those who trade with the UK. This webcast will provide an overview of the UK Government’s post-Brexit Free Trade Agreement (FTA) programme and examine how businesses can best utilize FTAs to support their commercial objectives.

The webcast will look, as an example, at the UK’s intention to request to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The CPTPP is one the world’s largest FTAs and covers Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam.

In this interactive discussion, the DIT and EY panel will:

  • Provide an overview of UK trade policy. Minister Jayawardena has responsibility for identifying opportunities for the UK’s future FTAs, continuity trade agreements rolled over from the UK's time as an EU member, export controls and tackling barriers to market access.
  • Offer an overview of the CPTPP and its implications for UK businesses trading in the Asia Pacific region and vice versa.
  • Consider how businesses can best take advantage of FTAs as part of their international operations and expansion into overseas markets.

We hope you will be able to join us.
