Tuesday, 20 April 2021 | Plastics and packaging taxes: threat or opportunity? (1 pm BST)

In this webcast, panellists will explore the various dimensions of the plastics and packaging legislative landscape with a tax, regulatory and, operational lens.

Every year in Europe, 26 million metric tons of plastic waste are generated. Currently, less than 30% of plastic waste is being collected for recycling. The EU plans include a target for recycling at least 50% of plastic packaging by 2025 and 55% by 2030. Narrowing the gap would require a reduction of plastic at its source and improved plastics waste management.

Legislative change, such as the EU Plastics Tax Levy and EU Single-Use Plastics Directive, is one of the measures aimed at increasing reusable and recyclable packaging and reducing waste. EU Member States, namely Spain and Italy, have started to legislate for the levy, with impact on businesses across many sectors.

The United Kingdom has also set out legislative plans for their own Plastic Packaging Tax. Additionally, other countries are considering their own positions.

How will you keep up with the dynamic legislative landscape and compliance requirements?
