09 February 2022 Tuesday, 22 February 2022 | Plastic packaging taxes: building the business response (12 pm GMT) The new UK Plastics Packaging Tax (UK PPT) will be in effect in under two months on 1 April 2022. What steps should be taken for effective compliance? What are some of the practical considerations, for example, with data and stakeholder management? This webcast will focus on how businesses can effectively prepare for compliance. During the webcast, panelists will briefly highlight details behind the UK PPT return, which has recently been published by the UK tax authorities (HMRC). It will provide a business view on key strategic, data and technology applications, and operational considerations for businesses established in and outside of the UK. This webcast has been designed to complement the upcoming series of two HMRC webcasts (further information and registration links to HMRC’s webcasts are available here and here). Over the past months, EY teams have advised many organizations on plastic packaging taxes in Europe. Panelists will share the most frequently asked questions and leading practices for effective compliance preparation, with a focus on the UK. An outlook on expected developments across Europe will also be shared. Other European countries have made their intentions clear, for example, Italy and Spain will introduce a new tax in 2023 and on a more localized level, the German city of Tübingen implemented a local packaging tax as of 1 January 2022. Poland and Portugal are exploring how Extended Producer Responsibility fees could be adapted to fund the EU Plastics Levy.
Speakers will include EY professionals from across Europe, with a focus on plastic and packaging taxes and regulations.
