European Commission proposes a gradual implementation of the Entry and Exit System

On 4 December 2024, the European Commission proposed the gradual implementation of the EU's Entry and Exit System (EES). The new proposal, if adopted by the European parliament and Council, would require the EU Member States to implement the EES within six months from the implementation date set by the European Commission. The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), another IT system designed to mitigate irregular migration to the Schengen Area, is set to be introduced after the EES.
