28 February 2024 Thursday, 14 March 2024 | Unpacking the latest European packaging regulatory and tax developments (14:00 CET) In November 2022, the European Commission introduced a proposal to revise the existing Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD). The aim is to set common EU requirements to ensure a harmonized and well-functioning internal market across the EU Member States. This will serve to simplify existing rules, provide a clearer framework to product manufacturers and reduce the administrative burden. What impact will this harmonization have on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)? And how will it impact the national legislation of each member state? Join the 60-minute webcast to unpack the proposal for the revised PPWD and its potential impact on EPR. During the webcast, we will share the latest legislative developments across Europe, for example, Italy (1 July 2024) and Germany (1 January 2025) will introduce a new plastic packaging tax to pay for the EU Plastics Levy. Poland is focusing on the implementation of the Single-Use-Plastics Directive (1 July 2024) and the introduction of a deposit return system as of 2025. With a number of changes on the horizon, technology-enabled approaches such as the EY Global VAT Reporting Tool or SAP applications can help to lighten the load in the packaging compliance space. Speakers will include EY professionals from across Europe, who have a focus on plastic packaging taxes and regulations.
