Tuesday, 5 November 2024 | How will digitalization in the Schengen area reshape the European Union travel landscape? (14.00 CET)

Digitalization is driving significant change to the rules of travel to most European countries. For those jurisdictions outside of the European Union (EU) and the Schengen area (29 European countries which have abolished many types of internal border controls between them), it is important to understand what these rules are, their impact on mobility, and what needs to be done in advance by third country nationals to ensure compliance.

With the roll out of four new IT systems that aim to digitalize travel in the Schengen area, our insights will support mobility and business travelers by exploring how these changes will reshape the business traveler landscape, and how to prepare for them.

In this webcast, EY professionals will take you through the key upcoming developments in Schengen
travel, including:

The EU’s Entry Exit System (EES): This new automated IT system will replace passport stamping at the border by electronically registering all entries and exits into the area.

  • The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS): Expected to start in the first half of 2025, affecting 1.4 billion people from over 60 visa-exempt countries who will be required to have a travel authorization to enter 30 European countries for short stay visits.

  • Digitalization of Schengen visa process: An EU visa application platform to process applications for Schengen visas making visits to Consulates in most cases unnecessary.

  • The Digital Travel credentials and EU digital travel application: Recently proposed by the European Commission this aims to allow travellers to obtain digital travel credentials via an app to speed up border controls.

  • EU Blue Card Directive: A status update on the implementation of the Directive in key European markets that gives entry, residence and rights to highly qualified third-country nationals and their families under certain conditions.

Join this informative exchange with EY immigration professionals from across Europe who will share EY insights and knowledge with you. They will also take you through some practical case studies in several EU markets. You will have the opportunity to ask questions during the webcast.

It’s free and quick to register. If the timing does not work for you (we appreciate for markets in Asia-Pacific it is late in the evening), please register and you will receive the replay to view at your own convenience.
