15 January 2026 Ireland extends grace period for Irish Residence Permit renewals The Irish immigration authorities recently extended the grace period for Irish Residence Permit (IRP) renewals from eight to 12 weeks due to the high volume of renewal applications being submitted. The authorities now permit individuals with expired IRPs to maintain their lawful status in Ireland for up to 12 weeks (up from eight weekly previously), provided they can present proof (i.e., acknowledgement email with the application date and online registration number) that they submitted their renewal application before their current card expired. A Tax Alert prepared by EY's People Advisory Services, and attached below, provides additional details. Document ID: 2026-0202 |
