Vietnam announces implementation of electronic issuance of Work Permits and Work Permit Exemption certificates

On 22 May 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs announced the implementation of electronic issuance of Work Permits (WP) and Work Permit Exemption (WPE) certificates. Effective 15 June 2026, outcomes for applications related to issuance, re-issuance and extension of WPEs for foreign employees in Ho Chi Minh City will be provided in electronic format. These electronic documents will have the same legal validity as physical documents. The new system is expected to enable faster access to results, reduce paperwork, improve efficiency, lower costs, and enhance transparency.
