Canadian government suspends immigration documents for residents of countries that have high risk of Ebola

The Government of Canada has announced temporary border measures in response to an Ebola disease outbreak. These measures will impact travel to Canada and apply both to foreign nationals and, in some cases, Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Effective 27 May 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET, Canada will implement a 90-day suspension of all visas and Electronic Travel Authorizations (eTAs) for residents of countries identified as having a high risk of Ebola transmission. The affected countries include Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan. The suspension is temporary and scheduled for 90 days, subject to further government review.
