Malaysia reiterates online filing requirements for expatriate pass updates

Malaysia's Expatriate Services Division (ESD) recently reminded employers that all pass-shortening, Transfer of Endorsement (TE) and Take-up Balance (TUB) applications for expatriates under its jurisdiction must be submitted through the ESD online portal. Employers were also reminded to provide details to ESD of any pass shortening, TE or TUB cases that were previously processed manually so that the expatriates' immigration records can be updated in the ESD system. Under Malaysian immigration requirements, employers must shorten and cancel an expatriate's work pass and any related dependent passes before the individual departs Malaysia permanently or when employment ends, or before obtaining a new pass under a different employer.
